It’s the age old question. Which is better? Manual toothbrushes or electric toothbrushes?
I think the majority of us know that electric is far superior to manual, despite many still using manual toothbrushes. Whether it’s the price of an electric toothbrush that put’s you off or the sensation of it, I’m here to persuade you to come to the sparkling side of good oral hygiene!
Now generally speaking there are two types of electric toothbrushes; oscillating and ultrasonic. I’m going to stick to talking about ultrasonic because I feel like they’re the best transition toothbrushes if you’re moving from manual over to electric.
I used to actually use an oscillating one but it recently broke on me and just as I was about to decide which one to invest in next, Smile Brilliant got in touch about a collaboration for their CariPRO toothbrush. Now I’d seen their products before and had done a little research on them and soon realised they were the perfect fit!
With 40,000 vibrations per minute, 5 brush modes and an insaneeee 30 day battery life it’s hard not to love the CariPRO. From the minute I opened the box I was impressed. It’s made from such a soft silicone material making it a lot more comfortable to hold than your typical plastic toothbrushes. Also I feel like this will help keep the toothbrush clean and not gather limescale like my old toothbrush did.
I put the toothbrush on charge to ensure it had full battery and then began to use it for a week before writing this so that I could give my full opinion and review on it.
I tested out all modes and was blown away by the motion of the bristles, how well they cleaned in between my teeth and also how much cleaner my teeth felt, without me having to do any extra work.
So I generally used the clean mode but I did try the white mode a couple of times. The massage mode on my gums, tongue and cheek which made my tongue really clean and kept my breath fresher for longer. The gum care mode was also great as it really got between my teeth and gums to ensure there was no plaque left behind.
What are my overall thoughts I hear you ask?
Well firstly if you’re currently a manual toothbrush user this is going to be perfect for you as the brush-heads are similar to those on a manual toothbrush so it won’t feel too foreign for you when compared to an oscillating toothbrush with a small round head.
A lot of patients I see in clinic often have receded gums from brushing too hard and from brushing for too long (I myself have a bit of gum recession) this can happen from both an electric or manual toothbrush but CariPRO helps prevent this. Firstly the ultrasonic does all the work for you, so you simply need to hold it at a 45° angle against your teeth and gums rather than scrubbing away like there’s no tomorrow. Secondly you’ll know when to stop brushing because there’s a built-in timer which means you’ll know when each segment of your mouth is clean and you can then move on to the next one.
The varied bristle-lengths are great as they really help to clean between the teeth properly. I’d suggest using the massage mode and brushing as this helped clean between my teeth the best and I had next to no trapped food particles when flossing afterwards.
One of the biggest selling points for me is the insane battery life! I used to have to constantly leave my old toothbrush on charge between brushed however with this I haven’t had to charge it once since having it. It’s great because I’m always flying between university and going home and so having to pack a toothbrush charger is such an inconvenience. I mean I’m currently in Bali and didn’t even think to pack my toothbrush charger because there’s no need.
So on that note alls I’ll say is if you’re in the market for a new toothbrush be sure to check out the CariPRO. If you guys have any more questions feel free to send me a DM on instagram or check out the FAQ page on the smile brilliant website.
